HMS Zinnia was ordered by France at Smith’s Dock shipyard in Middlesboro on 31.08.1938 and received the manufacturer’s number J4034.
 The construction of the ship took 7 and a half months.
She was equipped with armament enabling attacks on submarines, defense against air raids and trawling minefields.
In her short service, the ship conducted operations minesweeping port entrances, and saved 3 castaways from Cape Rodney sunk by U-75 on 5.08.1941.

Propulsion: 2 boilers and steam engine with 4 cylinders generating 2750 hp. 1 bolt.
Speed: 16 - 17 knots.
Range 4000 nautical miles at the speed of 12 knots.
Armament; At launching. 1 102 mm caliber cannon (type Mark IX BL – 4-inch/45-calibre). 1 AA Gun
Gun 40 mm caliber (type Mark VIII 2-pound)70 depth charges.
Screen-type trawling devices
Crew: 85 officers, non-commissioned officers and seamen
